School Grants For Studying Abroad
If you are presently enrolled in a college or university degree program that requires you to travel abroad either for study programs or to attend course related events, you may be eligible for funding from any one of the many college grants offered by private and government organizations.
These programs have been established in order to address the needs of financially challenged students whose education can benefit greatly from travels abroad. In such instances, traveling is seen as an essential component in broadening the scope of education of a particular student. In addition, traveling encourages the exchange of information across different venues, making the case for college travel grants even more compelling.
Study Abroad Grants
While a lot of students may opt to pursue further studies abroad, a large number of them pay for their expenses out of their own–or their family’s–pockets. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to do that, although it would certainly be advantageous for any student. Study Abroad grants make travel possible for deserving students who would not have otherwise been able to afford the privilege.
Such grants aren’t actually new, with various colleges and universities having offered them since the last days of WWII. Since then, the global education scene has been more open to the idea of international student exchange programs, with dozens of countries opening their doors to students from all over the world. While there were only few countries involved in such programs in the beginning, more and more countries have become convinced of its merits.
Today, some of the most visible proponents of study and teach abroad programs are organizations such as the CIEE.
With more than 100 different programs spread out in more than 20 countries worldwide, the CIEE regularly funds student travels to countries such as Bolivia and Poland among others. Among the most notable travel grant offered by the CIEE is the John E. Bowman Travel Grants, which is awarded to students that intend to pursue further studies in non-traditional countries.
Funding For Meetings And Conferences
It has been a tradition in certain educational circles to encourage graduate and undergraduate student participation in various conferences and meetings. The students often serve as auxiliary support in such functions, although they may also be called upon to represent their school or to voice out specific concerns.
With not many students being able to afford the luxury of traveling abroad for conferences and meetings–regardless of how important they are–college travel grants can help lighten the load considerably. Thanks to the availability of such grants for financially strapped students, it is now possible to take advantage of all the opportunities for networking, gathering knowledge and discussion that travel can provide.
College travel grants are most often awarded to students that are enrolled in health care, science, or mathematics related courses. Such students may be eligible to receive anywhere from $500 and $1,000.
